March is finally here which means that spring is right around the corner, and I couldn't be any more excited! This winter has been particularly brutal for me, not because NYC has been extremely cold – in fact I am told this winter was quite mild in comparison – but because it was my first northern winter.
Truth be told, I'm just tired of wearing boots and coats, and with our boutiques sending in the cutest maxi dresses and cropped tops for the spring season, I'm tempted to just ditch the rest of this cold weather and head back to Austin. And as it turns out, that is exactly what I'm doing.
It is South by Southwest (SXSW) time, y'all!
If you are unfamiliar, SXSW is a two week long conference down in Austin, Texas in which the first week is dedicated to digital media and its advancement, a few days are then dedicated to film. Then, the city turns into a giant concert - with every venue in town hosting a live music event of some kind for up to seven nights in a row.
The best part? The vast majority of this music is free! OK, I lied. The best part is the warm-weather fashion. (What? You thought I meant about it being free? I'd never!)
Finally, I'm taking the high-waisted shorts, the maxi dresses, the white pants, and every other spring trend off the racks and making my way down to Texas. But don't you worry - neither myself nor Shoptiques.com is celebrating the kickoff to music festival season without you!
To make the most of SXSW and my personal obsession with Austin and live music, we have printed our very first magazine: The SXSW Issue. It features interviews with up-and-coming singer-songwriter Erin Austin of OK SWEETHEART, and Austin fashion bloggers Chanel Dror of CamilleStyles.com and Joanna Wilkinson of KeepAustinStylish.com. Plus, we've highlighted our Austin boutiques and the things that matter most to Austinites, like sustainability and work-life balance.
See, while we love fashion over here at Shoptiques.com, we love life a lot more! Life is about celebrating and enjoying every moment you get with your friends, your family and your co-workers. For us, that means staying up until 5 a.m. on a Monday evening to design a beautiful print magazine when you have to be at work at 9 a.m. to film a How to Wear White video. To us, co-workers are family, and even more so our boutique owners and customers who have helped us come this far.
Music is a great way to celebrate life, and when it's free it's even better. Not going to Austin for SXSW? Not to worry, you can still shop our amazing Austin boutiques and follow me on Twitter at @TraceWall for up-to-the-minute reports on the going-ons around Texas' capital. Last year I was serenaded by J.Cole, so I promise, I'm worth a follow!
As always, be yourself, be different.
