Olga: Hi guys. Welcome back to Shoptiques TV. It's June, which means we're back for our Monthly Trend Video. I am very excited to be here today with Mary Kate McGrath, Editor in Chief of PureWow, an online lifestyle publication for women of style and substance. I am obsessed and read their emails religiously! So we invited Mary Kate to talk fashion and summer in our office today.
Mary Kate: Thank you Olga. I am excited to be here. At PureWow, we are all about elevating the every day and what better way to elevate the everyday than with these 5 summer trends.
Summer is a season of colors. While past seasons were all about pastels, no one should escape the brights this season. I love this Open Back silk dress in this bright yellow color. Poppy Reds, Monaco Blues and Hot Pinks are other possibilities. Just keep details to a minimum (brights look best in minimal shapes) and go easy on the accessories to let the dress and its color take center stage.
Olga: I love colors and I think summer is the perfect time to take it a step further and rock neon! I think the fear with neon is that it will make you look like a walking highlighter, so this dress perfectly masks and highlights neon at the same time. That's the key with neon: do it in moderation and pair with solid colors like a jacket for a fun summer look.
Mary Kate: Totally agree Olga. You can also combine brights with our next Trend Alert: Cut-outs which is what we have done with this Maxi. I find cut-outs to be a quirky but modest way to show off summer skin. It was all about the peekaboo effect at the 2013 Met Gala: Miranda Kerr, Dakota Fanning and Emma Watson took advantage of this trend. Word of wisdom: don't overdo it: cutout dresses are best with just a hint of skin.
Olga: The same applies for our next Trend: Leather. Leather in the summer is tricky, but it can be done! Number 1 rule: wear the smallest dose of it. This dress only features the front leather detailing with the rest of the dress - more summer appropriate. Rule number 2: make sure the silhouette is summer appropriate: go for a loose, flowy outfit over a tight one giving your skin room to breathe.
Mary Kate: Speaking of breathing room, sheer is a huge trend this summer. Showing off a hint of skin via see-through detail is an effortlessly chic way to indulge your feminine side. But let's be honest - it's not the easiest trend to pull off. They key to success is confidence and class. The safest way to embrace the trend remains highlighting your assets through sheer elements subtly injected in your clothing. This dress is the perfect example of just enough sheer: both back and front features subtle elements of sheer leaving plenty for the imagination, while still pointing towards your best features in a totally unexpected ways.
Olga: Not overdoing sheer is totally the key! I have seen some funny stories with sheer gone wrong! I am very excited about our last highlight of the video: Maxi Trend. The maxi dress is surprisingly versatile style must-have for the summer. Wear a maxi during the day pairing with gladiator sandals and loose locks or enjoy the after-dark hours by pairing the look with high heels and statement jewelry.
Mary Kate: You can always mix and match between these trends to make the summer your own. Unless you are not excited to look gorgeous while feeling totally free to romp around, don't wait another minute to try these trends!
