How to Wear Metallics

Metallics aren't just for that '80s costume party. See how you can style them for this decade.

Hi guys, welcome back to Shoptiques TV!

Today, we are talking about how to wear metallics. Now, I know what you are thinking—a lot of the metallic pieces out there look exactly like the item you wish you had scouted for that colleges 80’s party.  But the goal now is to NOT make them look tacky. So, we are talking the two items we’re guessing you are going to have the most trouble pairing and showing you how to make them work in this millennium.

I don’t know about you, but for me, metallic gold leggings were costume gold in high school and college.  Now, instead of paring them with the overdone make up and big frizzy hair like you did then, try them with neutral additions and simple makeup. This will help to keep the focus on the legging and minimize any overwhelming flashbacks.

As for metallic jackets, let’s be honest: channeling Michael Jackson can rarely be a bad thing. In fact, the fall 2013 runways will be chock full of similar styles, colors, and retro fittings that harken back to his heydays. Hop on the train now by mixing a metallic jacket with any of your basics for more polished touch, or over a little black dress to add some edge.

Overall, don’t be afraid to wear your metallic pieces outside next 80’s party.  No matter which way you wear it, the key is super simple: just keep the rest of the outfit neutral and let the item take center stage.

Thanks again for watching Shoptiques TV, and until next time, remember to be yourself. Be different.
