They simply weren't online, and if they were, there was no way to find them. We've brought them online — and created a destination that connects savvy shoppers with thousands of handpicked boutiques across the globe. Founded in 2012 by Olga Vidisheva with just 25 boutiques on the platform, Shoptiques now has thousands of stores on the site — and quickly growing.
At Shoptiques, we have two primary goals: First, we want to enable customers to buy one-of-a-kind merchandise that they can’t find anywhere else. Secondly, we want to provide small businesses with digital solutions that allow them to compete on a global scale. As a shopper, you can discover products according to traditional shopping categories as well as by neighborhood and even by store. As a Shoptiques boutique, you have access to millions of customers as well as a multitude of customizable tools, such as web hosting, email marketing, and inventory management.
The concept behind our logo is simple: Shopping makes people happy. Since we're in the business of delivering happiness by connecting savvy shoppers with the best local boutiques, we felt it only appropriate that our icon reflects that, literally. That’s why our logo is one big smile — and it’s no coincidence that it also looks like a shopping bag.

Born in Kyrgyzstan and raised in Russia, Olga Vidisheva moved to the United States at 17 for college. She paid for tuition by modeling and received her degree from Wellesley College in 2007. After graduating, she started her career at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York and spent a significant amount of time traveling for work. While on business trips, she would use any free time to explore neighborhoods and shop small local stores. She discovered scores of incredible boutiques everywhere she went, but was often puzzled that none of them had websites so that she could shop their unique merchandise once she returned home.
Later while attending Harvard Business School, Olga spent a summer interning at Chanel where she was consistently complimented not on her name-brand designer pieces, but rather on her eye-catching boutique finds. So she decided to devote herself to understanding why small clothing stores didn’t have a digital presence and she spent her second year of school interviewing over 800 boutiques about the pain points of selling online. Consistently, she heard the same thing: Boutiques either didn’t have the time or the resources to do e-commerce well, if at all. She decided to draft a business plan to bring the world’s best boutiques online — and the idea for Shoptiques was born.
Shortly after getting her MBA, Olga was accepted to Y Combinator as the first single non-technical founder. It was there that she further developed the Shoptiques platform and technology before officially launching in the spring of 2012.
Walking down the streets of Paris, you can’t help but be mesmerized by the fashion, architecture, culture — and the boutiques! Years ago while I was traveling for work, I came across a gem of a store in the Marais district with the friendliest, most stylish owner. At one point, the owner pointed out a pair of shoes by Phoebe Cham Pour Schu, and I knew that I couldn’t leave empty-handed. Inside their beautiful box complete with the flawless bow, the shoes became the perfect keepsake for me to take home and remember my time in Paris.
I still dream about visiting that tiny Parisian store again, but in the meantime, I’ve been lucky enough to discover so many other boutiques, both near and far. Each one is special in its own way, but they all have something in common: beautiful hard-to-find pieces and a knowledgeable owner with a distinct style perspective.
This is why Shoptiques was founded: We want to grant women access to the most stylish boutiques and replicate that same intimate in-store experience.
