It might seem blasé to toss around names like Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian in the same sentence, but with both women attached to princes of their industry (the UK and hip-hop respectively), and currently pregnant with children whose names are already going in the history books, it's easy to see how their relevance to one another is closer than any one of us may actually think. And retailers agree.
According to The Telegraph, retailers prefer dressing Kim Kardashian over Kate Middleton - because what Kim wears, people actually buy.
"You don’t see hundreds of women running around looking like [Kate Middleton],” said Roland Mouret. “To be honest, we’re more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian’s worn."
And while that may be the sad truth of a reality-TV-obessed culture, perhaps the discovery is good news for the women in the world who don't cater to popular trends and fads when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. Though our fashionable outings don't result in buys at the stores we recommend, they do turn heads and gain admirers. Because in the end, when you dress for yourself, you make a much bigger impact in the lives of those whom you come across.
Sure, Kate's clothes might not make the big bucks for retailers, but both her wardrobe and her attitude in that wardrobe encourages confidence in self and place the world over. And that, my friends, is worth much more than any dollar amount Kim can conjure up.
After all, Mouret says it best, "Kate doesn’t seem to feel the need to dress sexily to woo the world. She’s dressing for William and herself."
