What do you do at Shoptiques?
I was originally a summer intern who worked on organizing photo shoots, managing boutique relationships and organizing products. Now, I have the opportunity to be a campus ambassador for Cornell University and spread the word about Shoptiques, all the way up here in Ithaca, New York.
Where are you from?
I am from Houlton, WI, which is near the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
What are you studying, and why?
I am studying Applied Economics and Management and hoping to get a minor in French Studies. I ended up studying Applied Economics and Management because I think it is a versatile degree that gives me a lot of career options, but also because my family is very business-oriented, so I am used to that type of an environment. As for the French Studies minor, I have always loved France and its culture since my first visit as a child. I love the history of France and how that history plays into the modern day culture.
How did you end up at Cornell?
I ended up at Cornell after I realized that it felt right from the many times I visited here when I was younger. All three of my older sisters went to Cornell, so when it came to picking where I should go, I realized Cornell had the perfect environment and areas of study to fit my tastes.
What's your favorite thing about Ithaca?
I love the fact that Ithaca is a small town filled with amazing people. The people here do truly unique things that make Ithaca what it is. From the Farmer’s Market to the cute shops in downtown to the Cornell students, the town makes the perfect backdrop for my college experience.
I remember when I used to show up at school and see five girls wearing the same shirt from the same ho-hum store at the mall, and it always frustrated me. I have always wanted to be fashion forward and show my unique style, but I think that is difficult today with mass production and marketing being the norm. I think Shoptiques fills a unique void that allows women to express themselves on their own terms.
What are your favorite boutiques?
I love il Vostro, Sir & Madame, Callalilai, and Jane’s Closet.
"I find this skirt amazing because depending on how you pair it, you can completely change the feel of it. I can totally see myself wearing this for the perfect holiday outfit."
