Meet Brighton!
How do you describe your style?
Classy, sophisticated, and polished with a hint of edge and sass. I tend to stick to the timeless looks, but love to occasionally add a little modern touch. I’m usually drawn to neutrals and solid hues, but also like to experiment with striking colors and vibrant prints too. All in all, my default “look” is conservative and sophisticated; but, if I’m feeling extra confident or daring, I usually try something a little more audacious and unexpected. With any given day’s demands, mood, or circumstances, I try and have fun with my personal sense of style.
What is the most exciting moment you've had as a blogger?
It has only happened a few times, but I would have to say that some of the times when I’ve felt the most excited is when other bloggers link to my blog on their blogroll! It’s the best compliment and always makes my week!
What do you love most about boutique shopping?
Although shopping at department stores is nice—given the wide variety in brands and availability of sizes—it seems that these larger stores are often limited by their need to be conservative and, for lack of better words, buy what sells. I enjoy shopping at boutiques because owners are able to buy edgier and more unique pieces that aren’t as ubiquitous. Plus, the shopping experience is way more personal and the relationships you build make shopping more fun and meaningful.
What inspired you to create your blog? What do you love most about blogging?
A few things actually inspired me to start my blog, but the primary impetus was the launch of my mother’s Italian-made shoe line: Dee Keller Design. I’ve always been passionate about information systems and technology, including the intricacies of computer programming and web development. And although I had never been particularly interested in fashion, I definitely loved to shop and appreciated the world of fashion and style. The combination of these interests coupled with my desire to promote my mom eventually led to the beginning of BrightonTheDay – a way for me to satisfy my creative itch, dabble with behind-the-scenes technology, all the while promoting Dee Keller Design.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever received and how do you incorporate it into your life?
This is a tough one! But one I can think of is a phrase my father has always told me: life is what you make it. And for as long as I can remember, I’ve tried to start each day and adventure by repeating this simple truth to myself. And in keeping with this lesson, I also believe that hard work is never a waste. But all in all, the most important truth I’ve come to realize is the importance of a balance between self-confidence and humility.
What are your favorite boutiques in your current city?
I recently moved to New Orleans, but I haven’t gotten the chance to go shopping yet! So, instead, I’ll answer this question for my hometown city: Baton Rouge. Since Baton Rouge doesn’t have any major department stores (such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, etc.), the local boutiques are really the only source of high-end and contemporary retail. As such, the boutiques really play a major role in the city and there are several great options. My favorites would have to be Eros, Love, FeBe, and Aria.

"Because who doesn't need an all fur bag? During the winter, I typically gravitate towards darker and more neutral colors. And as a result, I tend to put more emphasis on my accessories. A baggy black sweater, skinny jeans, gold accessories, and THIS furry hand bag would be such a chic look!"

"I love everything baggy when it comes to cold weather. I don't know why, but there's just something about putting on a big, cozy, baggy sweater and drinking something warm that makes me smile! Plus, it's fun to pair a casual-looking sweater like this one with some bold-patterend pants!"

"There's something about button ups that I just can't get enough of! They seem to be one of my go-to purchases these days. I like how this one has a bit of a fancy feel to it, giving you the ability to dress it up. But it would also be cute to mix with another print or even pair with some jeans for a more casual look."

"One of my favorite things about sequins is styling them in unexpected ways. Most of all, I like to pair my sequin pieces with casual ones to put together a casual look with a twist. This black sequin shirt would be a great basic for your sequin collection."

"I like to be a little audacious when buying nice coats! Everyone has a classic, black coat that they sport during the fall and spring, and I'd rather not fade into the masses. So I like to be a little different and bring my sense of style into my coat selection. I'm a big fan of printed coats and this hounds tooth one is SO classy and chic! I love it!"
