Meet Kristine!
Tell us a little about yourself—how did you get to where you are today?
During my time as a college student, I accidentally fell into the beauty industry. I got a job working at Sephora as a color consultant and instantly my career was born. I became obsessed with beauty and wanted to learn everything I could. During my time as a color consultant, I started BeautyinNYC.com and it grew from there. First, I focused only on beauty products and then I ventured into fashion. My blog has since taken me to Fashion Week each season and continues to be an exciting ride everyday!
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I get to meet people who share the same interests as me. It’s exciting to wake up every day and known that the possibilities are endless. I can write about what I want, when I want and share that with others. There is never a dull moment.
How do you describe your style?
I would describe my style as feminine, fun, classy, practical and glamorous. I am a firm believer that you can be glamorous and still maintain a level of comfort.
Who are your style icons?
Coco Chanel, Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Madonna, Bettie Page and Jackie O.
From where do you draw inspiration for your style?
Any and everywhere. It can be from a magazine, a blog or on the streets.
Do you have a favorite piece of clothing?
Yes, I have this gorgeous pale pink floral blazer that’s just my style. It’s so feminine and reminds me of spring.
Where do you like to shop?
In Store – H&M, Saks Fifth Ave, Sephora and Bergdorfs. Online – ASOS is my absolute favorite. Then B-glowing, ShopBop.
The Shoptiques motto is Be Yourself, Be Different. What’s one thing that truly makes you unique?
I don’t really let anything define me. I am who I am and I’m happy that way.
What challenges have you faced so far in your business and how have you overcome them?
My biggest challenge when I started blogging was time management. I used to constantly overbook myself and take on way more than I could handle. Now, I’ve learned to say no and accept partnerships I really want to work on.
What advice would you give to someone who has a dream or talent they want to pursue?
Never give up! Sometimes you have to fight for your dreams and it’s important to keep pushing and have confidence within yourself. My biggest advice is talk to people. I know many people who are too shy and don’t put themselves out there. Break out of your shell a little bit. Anything is possible; you just have to take the first step.
