T&C owner Rand Niederhoffer, who considers herself an impulse buyer, updates her wardrobe these days with special pieces that are truly unique and personal. “It’s really about that initial instinct that makes you fall in love with the piece,” she says. “It’s one of the reasons I wanted to open the store—to help people find that aspirational quality in an outfit.”
“I dress for myself. I’m that person who will buy that ugly pretty dress. My personal style happens to be feminine and romantic so I try to acknowledge that side of myself while balancing it a little with menswear-inspired pieces. But I’m a girlie girl at heart.”
“I’m constantly taking in inspiration. I look for points of personalization, interesting and unique ways that someone has really made a look her own. This is what I also try to impart to our customers—to help them style an outfit or make a piece more relevant for them. “

“I tend to be a very neutral kind of girl, so I push myself to experiment with color and blue always feels safe to me. I like how this blue is trending toward the neon family.”
“This dress is by Joie and it's what I think of for a work dress. It is a modest silk matte dress but has an asymmetrical hem so it feels fashion forward in a very elegant and modern way.”
“I made this little charm necklace for myself and my sisters. It’s from our Thistle & Clover Private Label. Each of us has a little black diamond in the position we are in our family.”

“It’s hard to find a maxi dress that fits your body perfectly. I always look for a mid-waist style, and this help since I’m on the shorter side (5-foot-4). This dress is by Myne. The matte silk gives it more of a versatile quality, and the print is a little bohemian, which is nice.

“I have these beautiful stacking rings and bracelets and I usually wear a ton of bangles. This skinny leather bracelet is by Jene Despain. It’s part of her menswear-inspired collection.”

“There was a period in my life where I was obsessed with buying shoes and I always gravitated toward really special ones, not the practical everyday shoes one should be buying if you are addicted to shoe shopping. I got those Kate Spade green flats on a trip to Lamu, Kenya. And the Lambertson Truex pumps [second from right] are my Fashion Week go-to shoes. I usually pair the gold sandals with a simple black dress to up the glamour quotient when I’m feeling uninspired.”

"Because I dress pretty low-key, I rely on my jewelry and accessories to take things to a formal or casual place. But I do love a print. I think that as long as you’re not letting it wear you, go for it.”
"I have a lot of mid-waist pieces right now, especially in skirts. They’re really easy to wear. This skirt is Wren, and it’s one of my favorite print pieces. My blouse is Joie and my shoes are Lambertson Truex."
"My turquoise earrings are by Mia Lara. She used to be on Wall Street and now designs jewelry. She travels to India twice a year to source all these amazing stones. They are one of our most popular pieces. She has them in every combination you can imagine.”

“I’m hugely sentimental so I can’t throw anything away, but I’m also a little bit anti-clutter so I keep trip souvenirs and little keepsakes tucked away. This board is where I put the things I can’t bare to put in my box yet. It has thank-yous from different interviews I’ve done, our wedding thank-you card and a photo of my little sister and I in Paris—stuff I don’t want to forget.”

“I've been into separates lately. I love the versatility of a skirt and a top—it gives you so many outfits in one. It’s like new territory for me. I am slowing building a selection of casual skirts that I can swap in and out with a few basic tops. It feels very modern and fresh.”
"This pendant necklace is a present that my co-owner Camilla gave me on our one-year anniversary. It’s by Bittersweet, a Brooklyn designer. She does the hand-stamping in her studio. Mine says Clover and hers says Thistle.”
