To call Chloë Sevigny a style starter is an understatement to say the least. Over the course of her career, the model-muse-actress has launched countless trends. Hardly a season has passed where the fashion boat was not rocked by the waves of Sevigny’s latest sartorial splash. In spite of her ubiquity on every trend-setter short list, we felt her ensemble at a recent New York City film screening to be of worthy note.
The base of the outfit is laid by one of the season’s sturdiest trends—the floral dress. Sevigny opted for a sweet, almost girlie cut, which was nevertheless figure flattering with its fitted bodice and flared skirt. Pattern-wise, the unusual yet seasonal color palette—which tied together sunny yellow and grass green with sky blue, pale pink, and just the right amount of violet—kept things interesting. With all those shades competing for attention, Sevigny was wise to opt for neutral accessories in classic black. Stopping just above the ankle, a pair of 90s-esque, square-toed boots provide just the right amount of rock-star edge, and keep the look from veering too far in the Pollyannaish direction. A structured handbag complete the look by helping to ground the dress’ fairytale vibe for just the right balance of woodland nymph and street-savvy style.
